Hi friends! I wanted to tell you all about something that is very near to my heart. At my university I am the current president of an organization called S.T.R.A.N.D.S. (Students Transitioning Relaxed And Natural Developing Sisterhood) and this past Sunday we had our first annual Black Girl Magic Gala. It is very important to me to give Black women a space to celebrate each other, and more importantly, celebrate themselves and this gala was a way for my organization to do just that.
Since this was a more formal affair and I usually post more causal outfits I wanted to share with you all what I wore! My dress is from Windsor and my shoes are from Lola Shoetique. I bought these shoes a while ago and I knew they were going to be the perfect pair for the gala. They are pretty comfortable and my feet did hurt after a while but that’s mostly because I was doing a lot of running around to make sure everything was going well. I also loved the jewels on the shoes and how they went perfectly with my statement necklace from Lulu*s (here’s a similar one). The dress fit beautifully and was super comfortable. It was a stretchy material and the sleeves were not annoying which is usually the case with off the shoulder dresses like this.
The gala was a very fun event that was centered around Black women and meant to show that we do appreciate everything that Black women are doing in our community. Lucy, a good friend of mine performed a song, checkout her super dope Instagram where she posts about her music and all the other cool things that she does (she’s always doing cool things). And we also had a speech by the fantastic Mignon Francois, owner of Cupcake Collection. Her speech was all about #BlackGirlMagic, and all the things that Black women are capable of doing even though they may not believe in themselves at that moment. It was very inspiring and we all were left with a lot to think about. There were awards given to different Black women on campus that have been doing notable things and dinner provided by Savor the Flavor, a catering company that is partially owned by a Black woman (yes it was Black Girl Magic through and through). It was a wonderful night and I made a lot of new connections with Black women that are doing different things in our community and I am excited to see what else Black women have to offer us.
